HARD : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Using great and steady effort
2. In a strenuous way

Example Sentences :

1. I tried so hard to please my wife.
2. Listen hard and you might just hear it.
3. I work very hard.
4. It is raining harder than ever.
5. Don't take it so hard.

HARDLY : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Almost not
2. Only with difficulty (often used with can or could)

Example Sentences :

1. I can hardly work nowadays.
2. I am not in a position to work.
3. I could hardly speak for tears.
4. I hardly go out these days.
5. I do not go out these days.

HARDLY : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Only just
2. Not really

Example Sentences :

1. I hardly know the people I work with.
2. Hardly had we started, when the car got a flat tyre.
3. This is hardly the time for buying new clothes.
4. This is hardly the season for buying new house.

NEAR : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Close to
2. Not far from

Example Sentences :

1. I came near to tears.
2. The job is near impossible.
3. Remind me again nearer to the time of meeting.

NEARLY - (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Almost
2. Not quite
3. Not yet completely

Example Sentences :

1. It took nearly one hour to reach the station.
2. The plane is nearly full.

LATE : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. After the usual, arranged, necessary or expected time

Example Sentences :

1. I stayed up late to know the election result.
2. The train arrived five minutes late.
3. I went to bed late.

LATELY : (adverb)
LATE : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Until recently
2. In the recent past and until now

Example Sentences :

1. I have not been feeling well lately.
2. We are coming late by two hours.
3. Professor Ram, lately of Madras University, is now head of department at Annamalai University.

PRETTY : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Quite
2. Though not completely
3. Rather
4. Very nearly
5. Almost

Example Sentences :

1. It's pretty cold today.
2. It is pretty much the same as yesterday.
3. With profits up, the company is sitting pretty.
4. Be sitting pretty means be in a very favourable positionl.

PRETTILY : (adverb)

Meanings :

1. Neatly
2. Elegantly

Example Sentences :

1. She is prettily dressed. (Adverb)
