ATTRIBUTE = transitive verb

Meanings :

Treat something as a result of some other thing or someone

Example Sentences :

The success of BJP in 2019 parliamentary elections in INDIA is attributed to the wide popularity of MODI in North India.

The Professor attributes his growth to extra-care taken by his mentor.

MISATTRIBUTE = intransitive verb

Meanings :

Wrongly treat something as a result of some other thing or someone

Example Sentences :

1. The success of BJP in 2019 parliamentary elections in INDIA is misattributed to the wrong-doings of AIADMK GOVERNMENT in Tamil Nadu.

2. The English Professor misattributed the famous quote, "The world is a stage. We are mere actors," to the poet JOHN KEATS, whereas those are the words of SHAKESPEARE.
