Combine Single Sentences into Single Simple Sentence :



Study carefully the following ways in which two or more Simple sentences can be combined into one Simple sentence.

By using Infinitives

Separate : He has three daughters. He must find husbands for them.

Combined : He has to find husbands for his three daughters.


Separate : A disease may be cured. A disease may be prevented. This is the better of the two.

Combined : Of the two things - to cure a disease or to prevent one - the latter is the better.


Combine into Simple sentences by using Infinitives.

1. He had lost his health. This added to his difficulties.

2. He had a large family. He had to provide for them.

3. He could not prepare well for the examination. He had not sufficient time.

4. Everyone should be honest and industrious. Our country expects this of every man.

5. He stayed at home and looked after his aged parents. This was his reason for staying there.

6. Julius Caesar was declared to be a usurper. Brutus declared this. Cassius declared this.

7. His house and goods were sold. His debts had to be paid.

8. My father was very much delighted. He had heard of my brother's success.

9. Your cousin did not make any great effort. He therefore could not keep his place in the class. He did not win a prize.
