Comma in Compound Sentence

Comma in Compound Sentence :

In a Compound sentence short Co-ordinate Clauses are generally separated by a Comma.

1. I came, I saw, I conquered.
2. Men may come, and men may go, but I go on for ever.

But when the two sentences are not expressed at full length or are very closely allied, the Comma is omitted.

1. I made haste and caught him.
2. I took up a stone and threw it at the mad dog.
