Festival of Makarasankranti :



Makarasankranti (Pongal) is perhaps the most typical of our festivals. India is an agricultural country. So harvests are very important season to our farmers. Pongal is therefore the harvest festival. Our farmers worship God for a good and plentiful harvest. Our farmers give grain free to the poor. The farmers wash their animals mostly cows and oxen and decorate them. They worship them and feed with rice and jaggery. They also perform poojas to heap of corns in the Field. Pongal is the name of a dish made of rice. It is a very favourite dish in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Sugarcane is available in plenty during this festival and both young and old chew this everywhere.
