Indirect Speech :
When the actual words spoken by a person are reproduced, it is said to be in the direct speech and when the words are reported by someone else in his or her words, it is said
to be in the indirect speech.
Let us look at the difference between direct speech statements and indirect speech statement.
Direct Speech :
1. They are always enclosed within inverted commas.
2. A comma is used to separate the direct speech and the reporting verb.
Indirect Speech :
1. No inverted commas are used.
2. No such comma is necessary.
Direct Speech :
My mother said, “Veena has come home for dinner.”
Reporting verb : SAID
Indirect Speech :
My mother said that Veena had come home for dinner.
