Nouns can be classified into four genders.

Masculine : boy, man, lion, ox, peacock, drake

Feminine : girl, woman, lioness, cow, peahen, duck

Common : Nouns that can belong to either masculine or feminine or both - baby, child, doctor, teacher, driver, animal, writer, pilot

Neuter : Nouns that do not have a gender - table, chair, tree, car, pen, lamp

We can form the feminine of the following nouns.

by adding ess

  1. actor - actress
  2. author - authoress
  3. heir - heiress
  4. lion - lioness
  5. tiger - dgress
  6. host - hostess
  7. priest - priestess
  8. prince - princess
  9. seamster — seamstress
  10. god — goddess

by adding she / girl / woman

  1. he-goat — she-goat
  2. godfather - godmother
  3. washerman — washerwoman
  4. fisherman – fisherwoman

by using a totally different word

  1. boy - girl
  2. buck - doe
  3. bull/ox — cow
  4. colt — filly
  5. father - mother
  6. fox — vixen
  7. gander - goose
  8. horse - mare
  9. drake — duck
  10. husband — wife
  11. king - queen
  12. lord - lady
  13. nephew — niece
  14. ram — ewe
  15. salesman — saleswoman
  16. businessman - businesswoman
  17. man-servant - maid-servant
  18. businessman — businesswoman
  19. son — daughter
  20. gentleman - lady
  21. bridegroom — bride
  22. cock — hen
  23. uncle - aunt
  24. hero - heroine
  25. boar — sow
  26. peacock -peahen
