The Festival of Deepavali :
Deepavali (or Divali) is one of the most important festivals of Hindus. It is an all India festival. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the length and breadth of the country. With this festival are intertwined so many lores and legends. It celebrates the victory of good over evil, the killing of Narakasura by Lord Krishna. It is also marks the
victory of Rama over Ravana. On the day of Deepavali, there are hectic activities all over the country. People invite their friends and relatives. They distribute sweets. Children and teenagers wear glittering and dazzling dresses. It is a festival of lights. On Deepavali nights, cities, towns and villages all over India are bright with twinkling lights. People illumine their houses, walls and terraces with light. It gives a bewitching spectacle during the night. This is the most enjoyable festival of all for children because this is the time when they can light crackers. Crores of rupees are spent every year on cracker?
From about six O’clock onwards on Deepavali evening the sky is lit up with the crackers. Flowerpots, sparklers and rockets of various colours bum brightly and make the night
look like day. People worship Srilakshmi on this day. In some areas people worship Baleendra.
